Observing Autumn Preparing For Winter

final12

Yesterday I was sitting out in the grass with my son as the sun set.  At this time of year the sun set is so dramatic because we’ve had these beautiful , warm, late summer days.  But when the sun goes down in Autumn it gets cold fast.  Many people love this time of year because of exactly this.  We can FEEL a change happening. The signs of autumn are all around us.  In the vitality fading from the leaves, canning fruits and vegetables,  and harvesting animals.  This is the change from yang to yin.  Many people have seen the yin yang symbol and this is the basis of it.  Hot and Cold.  Summer and Winter.  Male and Female.  The beauty of this season, just like spring, is you can feel the dramatic changes occurring in our environment.  This yin yang theory is the first and oldest medical theory in Chinese medicine.  Balancing the yin and yang in the body is the subtlest and oldest techniques of our medicine.  It seems simple minded but reflect in yourself.  Do you feel cold when everyone else is comfortable or do you feel too hot when everyone else is too cold?  Are you sleepy during the day and wide awake at night?  These are some of the most apparent signs that there is an imbalance in the yin and yang of your body.  Yin yang theory extends to every facet of life.  We see this play out in relationships all the time.  All too often, woman is too “cold” and man is too “hot” or vice versus.  One of my favorite ways to help people is in their relationships, bearing in mind that their first relationship is always to oneself.  Oriental medicine can help harmonize you to your environment.  That is the key to a graceful life.  Don’t try and go fast when everyone is going slow.  Don’t be pokey when things need to be done.  Now in this season of Autumn it’s a time of letting go and refining yourself to the things that matter most.  The sun has been beaming down intensely on us all summer.  It’s been supplementing our daily energy.  But now the sun is waning.  We have to rely on our own internal reserves.  So it’s a time of letting go of the excess because there is only enough energy to do so much and there isn’t as much time in the day.

Take a moment today and check in with yourself.  Do you have your cupboards filled?  Are you ready for a long cold winter?  Do you have enough energy stocked away that you’ll be able to share with those in need?

If you do we applaud you!  If you need a boost to prepare you for winter we are here to help.

Womens Health Services

Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine can help a woman transition smoothly through her many cycles.  PMS, pre and postpartum, and menopause are often large obstacles that can be helped with Oriental Medicine.

Anxiety, fatigue, irritability, depression, insomnia, head aches, PMS, dysmenorrhea, and menopausal symptoms are just some of the conditions effectively treated with herbal medicine.

For many women these issues start from pregnancies, childbirth, or blood loss through monthly heavy periods. The body is not able to keep up with the continuous loss of vital nutrients and health issues arise. When treating this pattern it is necessary to stop the heavy bleeding, supplement the body with blood building foods, and heal the digestive system so it can absorb the nutrients and turn them into rich blood. Traditional Chinese Medicine classically says that the richness of the blood gives richness to life!

Iron and iodine are essential for replacing lost blood. Eat legumes, green and red vegetables, yams, whole grains, spirulina, and seaweeds like kelp and dulse. Vitamin C increases Iron absorption and can be found in cabbage, peppers, broccoli, sprouts, and parsley.

Blood loss is one of the most common reasons for many women’s health issues, but it’s not the only one and that’s why I treat each person as an individual and we will talk at length so I can diagnose the root of your problem.

I’m a licensed acupuncturist and board certified herbalist. I use the highest quality herbs to customize time tested natural herbal formulas from Traditional Chinese Medicine for you.  Call today for your FREE consultation and learn how I can help you feel better!   435-650-2302

We also offer a complete Pregnancy Package.  Check it out!

Five Element Classical Theory

Matsuda_368

Five Element Theory is one of the oldest diagnostic methods from China.  In observation of the natural world patterns emerge.  These patterns are used to explain the relationships both healthy and diseased within the human body, mind and spirit.

Acupuncture

    • Acupuncture is one of the most used modalities in Oriental Medicine, a ten thousand year old system of health care.  In a time where we live such fast paced lives many people have been turning to this reliable and soothing healing practice to de-stress, heal what ails them and to integrate more fully into their authentic selves.
    • How does it work?  Thin disposable needles are inserted into the body at specific points.  This creates a reaction in the body.  Through thousands of years of investigation the acupuncture points have been found to create specific reactions like increasing circulation, reducing inflammation, regulating the temperature of the body, improving digestion, calming the mind, and stimulating the release of natural pain relieving chemicals from the brain.  Modern research is starting to show that acupuncture helps pain by deregulating the pain sensing areas of the brain.
    • How many treatments will I need?  It’s different for everyone and we can give you an idea when you call for a free consultation.  In the beginning of treatment patients benefit from receiving acupuncture twice per week. Because acupuncture helps your body heal itself getting frequent treatments helps you gain healing momentum.  Then, once you start to see changes in your symptoms, weekly treatments will keep the momentum going.  After your condition has improved 80-90% treatments will be spaced out to every other week or every three weeks, and when you are feeling 100% better maintenance treatments every 4 to 5 weeks will help you from losing all the ground you have gained.  Taking herbal formulas can speed up the time it takes for your body to heal and therefore cut down on the overall expense of treatment.  Dietary changes and appropriate exercise programs can also cut down on the overall cost of treatment.

Tera draws from a variety of different acupuncture styles including Traditional Chinese Medicine, Japanese Meridian Therapy, and Five Element Classical Theory to provide you with a customized health care experience.

It’s not all about needles though.  There are many different treatment methods.  Click on this link to learn about moxabustion and cupping.

Japanese Meridian Therapy

Matsuda_492

Known as the gentlest form of acupuncture.  Treatment with Japanese Meridian Therapy uses soft touch and the thinnest needles inserted mere millimeters into the skin.  This form of acupuncture was traditionally practiced by the blind in Japan and this diagnosis is performed mostly by touch.  This means patients can quickly lay down and start relaxing with out many questions being asked.

Traditional Chinese Medicine

Matsuda_264

Traditional Chinese Medicine style acupuncture is the most widely practiced style of acupuncture in the world.  Starting in China it branched out into other Asian countries and eventually to the west.  Traditional Chinese Medicine is used in hospitals to treat diseases of all natures as well as pain relief.

Herbal Medicine

Matsuda_403

Chinese Herbal formulas have been used for centuries to treat everything from the common cold to bleeding disorders.  Herbal medicine can be used alone or in conjunction with acupuncture treatments.  After detailed questions and physical examination a formula will be made specifically for the patterns that you are currently presenting.  For acute conditions a new formula may need to be adjusted every week.  For chronic diseases, ailments or constitutional patterns, an herbal formula can be prescribed for two to four weeks at a time.

We use only the highest quality of herbs that are independently tested for quality assurance.  The herbs come in concentrated powder form that are as easy to make as instant coffee.  The formula can also be encapsulated at your request for a small additional charge.  Unlike many prescription drugs Chinese Herbs address both the symptoms and the cause of the disease.

An herbal formula will be prescribed and recommended during each acupuncture appointment.  You may also book an appointment specifically for an herbal formula.

Nutritional Consultation

 Matsuda_404

Food is very powerful.  The body is continuously regenerating.  As they say, “You are what you eat.”  This is one of the most basic practices of Oriental Medicine.  Knowing what to eat for your particular body type or disease patterns that are presenting is a way to heal yourself daily on a cellular level.  Nutritional consultations are diet counseling sessions where we take a look at what foods would be best for you to eat and which to avoid.

This appointment would be a 60 minute session.
